Derig erui vi morn
ar im - dannon sui gond
Le dewin. Bith dýr.
Ar i ú-iston, havol
vi dath hin chaer:
im le awarthannen

Eru men awarthant bain.

you wait alone in the dark
and like a stone I fall.
I miss you. Words fail-
And what I don't know, sitting
in this pit, remote:
did I abandon you
or
God abandoned us all.

*apaquenta: foretold, promised

so here is the promised land
the heavy cart stumbles then comes to stand
and we drench the green vale
death torture and wail
flood like a river, old and mighty
nothing remains just a big white silence

On the development of JRRT's languages

I am sure most of you have been following the discussion on elfling ongoing mostly between Jason and Travis (for those who have not the thread - although there had been other threads leading to it - starts with Helge's exposé at elfling message 34513). It is, I must say, a very civilised debate and I am certain it provokes thoughts in a lot of us trying to study Tolkien's languages.

Having a new place to live certainly has it's - admittedly very few - disadvantages, like the fact that our almighty computer now resides amongst a pile of boxes and bags containing our life, all the VTs and PEs and stuff peacefully sleeping under layers of cardboard and while it works and all, it does not exactly facilitate making longer posts or indeed - which would be more important at the end of the day - working on EldarinWiki (speaking of which, I see, we have a new contributor... Hail, Palatinus, and well met!)

Anyway, for the time being, until the dust settles here (and also over there on elfling...) here is a short translation, of Yeats, who else:

Well, VT49 is here, and what a goldmine it is. New and exciting concepts, words, paradigms, long-missing expressions. Practically purely Quenya, maybe the next issue will feature more Sindarin again...
No doubt also others who frequent this board receive it soon and we can discuss the possibilities, implications, variations and suppositions.
