Hello All,

isn't it time for a little game again? Let's put our skills to a try and see if we can make and guess *pent-thennath, i.e. famous stories, novels, tales, movies, plays summarized in a single Dodonaic Quenya/Sindarin/Telerin/whatever sentence!

Are you game?

PE 17

A most interesting issue. I just read the notes about the comparative. We now can look sharper, run faster, watch more closely : à cene ancénie, à tire antírie, à nore amnórie (run with more running).
Looks also new to me he use of the same form as adverb and abstract noun : norne lintie - he ran swift,
norne lintierya(nen) - he ran as fast as he could.

Back from Omentielva tatya

Submitted by oreramar on Sun, 2007-08-12 17:25.

I am back since Saturday afternoon from Omentielva. It was with some apprehension that I had registered and finally felt awfully sorry for having to leave the meeting before Saturday evening. The participants were all great company and I have spent terrific 4 days in Antwerpen. The organisation was perfect and Beregond's cooking skills filled me with awe. I found it very interesting to see the various aspects of Tolkien's work people love and devote so much time to. Pieter Collier and Johan Vanhecke showed us books with Tolkien's autographs and we could even handle and read an original letter from Tolkien. The "Practical Elvish" on two evenings were quite hilarious and showed us that writing Elvish and speaking even simple sentences are quite different stories. We had a pleasant poetry evening during which participants read in turns the poems I had chosen and I realized how important right accentuation and pronounciation is.

Invitation to take part in a survey on the usage of artificial languages

Submitted by thebo on Sat, 2007-07-14 15:46.

I would like to invite you to join a survey on the usage of artificial
languages.

I am doing this survey as a school project.
With this survey I want to research if there are any distinctive
features in relationship with different artificial languages, for
example if a langauge is often spoken in a special age group. The
different intentions to deal with an artificial language or its area
of application are also very interesting and will be covered in this
survey.

The survey will just take 5-10 minutes of Your time.

Thank you very much for Your interest and coorporation! Feel free to

Omentielva tatya

Submitted by oreramar on Fri, 2007-07-06 18:52.

At the next Omentielva, one of the topics is the "Elvish Poets'Circle" where participants will read own poetry or the works of writers that cannot attend. To make sure that we have enough material to read from, I am looking for some, if possible, recent works. If anyone has a poem in any of Tolkien's languages that he would like to have read at the meeting, he can send it to the following mail address: ramaroreo@yahoo.com. It should be accompanied by an English translation.
Thanks in advance

The Forge

I am creating this thread so that we can have a place where ideas for neologisms can be exchanged. If you are pondering how to express something in an Eldarin language, what form a derivative of a root could take or if you have an idea for a coinage to share, post it here.

Tolkien Estate new web page

Submitted by oreramar on Sun, 2007-04-22 18:23.

On the occasion of the publishing "The Children of Hurin", the Tolkien Estate has opened a small web site. It does not contain much at the moment, but they promise that they will publish, among other things, in the future articles about Tolkienian Languages.
Here is the address, just in case it proves interesting in the future:

ARCA 2006

Submitted by oreramar on Wed, 2007-04-18 13:15.

Hello riddle lovers!

Are there some of you out there still pondering those great riddles Ninniach and Atwe have made up? I tried my luck, but do not worry, the score is still "0". But since wrong answers can also give hints (at least you know where you do not have to look anymore), I thought I draw your attention to the ARCA thread.
Following the wise advice of N. Boileau "Twenty times on the loom put back your work" (Vingt fois sur le métier remettez votre ouvrage), I shall continue my search. Hopefully, someone comes up with the right answer before I reach the twenties time :).

Help with a translation into Elvish

cimmerian_jedi's picture

Hello to all,
I have just joined this website and a fine site it is too.
I was wondering if someone here would be able to help me with a "hopefully" simple request.
I am hoping to get a tatoo of some quenya on my arm. I say Quenya, what I probably mean to say is some Tengwar.
I was wanting to translate the phrase "Not all who wander are lost."
Firstly, is is possible to translate this into Elvish and if so what would that be? Also how would I write it into Tengwar for use as a tatoo? Considering that this tatoo would be seen as a form of elvish inscription I figured that Quenya would be the correct language to use as apposed to Sindarin as it is the more formal language used for writings of poetry and lore etc.. Am I right in this thinking?
