Etymology

Goldogrin had a root *padh- with derivatives padhwen 'bark', path, padhin 'peel, skin of fruit, fine bark (paper)', past 'skin', pasta-, padhra- 'skin, peel, flay', paglos 'parchment', {pand 'bark - book'} (GL:63). Interestingly, this conception of bark used as writing material reappears again in PE17:171, only that the root is changed to PAR- 'peel (hence bark, book), Q. parma 'bark (literally skinning, peeling off), parchment, book (Eldarin writing materials originally of bark)'. (Intermediately, in the Etymologies, PAR- was glossed 'compose, put together').
Goldogrin paglos seems to be formed with lass 'leaf' (with regular a > o in the final syllable). Trying to find some middle ground amongst all of this, one arrives at *parlas which originally meant something like 'bark-leaf' or 'a peeled leaf'.
