ruist

noun

fireplace, hearth

Etymology

This isn't actually a fan-coined term. It is attested in Parma Eldalamberon #17, page 183, (RUYU), but it wasn't given a meaning. On either side of it were Quenya terms, ruimen 'fireplace, hearth' and ruive, aparuive 'wildfire'. We decided that it likely meant 'fireplace, hearth', judging the history of the word as being: ruisata>ruis'ta>ruist.
